The World Press Photo Foundation is committed to education. The future of visual journalism depends on the dedication of new talent
Our many training schemes around the world, led by the annual Joop Swart Masterclass, foster both the craft of visual storytelling and good journalistic practice.
The Joop Swart Masterclass has been organized by World Press Photo every year since 1994 and has established itself as one of the most prestigious events of its kind. Its goal is to bring together some of the most experienced individuals in photojournalism with young, promising photographers to share and pass on their knowledge and experience.
The nominating committee for the 2016 Joop Swart Masterclass has selected the young photographers who will be considered for the masterclass. The nominating committee consists of 171 professionals in photojournalism and documentary photography from all over the world. They have chosen 167 young photographers—56 women and 111 men, of 59 nationalities—to be considered for the masterclass.
In the next stage, an independent committee will choose the final 12 to be invited to Amsterdam for the masterclass later this year. The selected participants will be announced during the annual Awards Ceremony, on Saturday, 23 April.
