BBC Broadcast: Migrants drown in sea crossing attempt to Lesbos

From the beaches of Lesvos, our video footage of one of the largest successful rescues - a boat with 250 Syrian refugees - that landed on Limanztiki beach, Lesvos, Greece. It was broadcast that same night by the BBC News and BBC International as part of their continued coverage of the ongoing crisis.

At least 34 people have drowned off the coast of Turkey after their boats sank during an attempted crossing to the Greek island of Lesbos.

Several children were among the dead.

The narrow stretch of water is one of the key crossing points for the significant number of refugees and migrants from Syria and other countries trying to reach the EU.
