Anja Niedringhaus Courage In Photojournalism Award

Humbled and over the moon to have been selected as a nominee for this prestigious award. Anja is not only someone I look up to in this profession, she is a wonderful example of a kind and caring human being. At this early stage in my career, I do not feel worthy of this nomination, but it is motivation for me to continue to do the work that I do, telling the stories of those who don’t have the means to tell their stories themselves.

The Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Awardwas created to honor the life and work of Pulitzer Prize-winning AP photographer Anja Niedringhaus (1965-2014), who was killed while reporting on elections in Afghanistan. With this Award, the IWMF celebrates the courage of women photojournalists who tell vital stories from countries and communities around the world through pictures.

Created in 2014 with a $1 million gift from the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, the Award will be given annually to a woman photojournalist whose life and work honor the legacy Anja Niedringhaus. The Awards event will be held in a different city each year: the inaugural event in 2015 was held in Berlin, in Anja’s home country of Germany.

The 2016 Award Ceremony will be held on June 9th in Washington, D.C. Follow the Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award on social media via #AnjasCourage
